DRGN Gaming was an esports organisation founded by Jarco 'DiamondJ_CS' Vervaeke on the 28th of February 2019 in Belgium. Originally aimed to be a Belgian esports organisation, DRGN Gaming grew to be an international esports contestant in Europe and North America in a variety of game titles. After more than 4 years of commitment, dedication and passion, experiencing both the highs and lows, DRGN Gaming was shut down on the 25th of June 2023.

History

DRGN Gaming came to its existence after a long journey between friends. A journey with ups and downs, but still with friendship as a cornerstone.

It all began on the 18th of June 2015. CEO Jarco 'DiamondJ_CS' Vervaeke created a steam account and got Counter-Strike: Global Offensive as an early birthday gift. "Ever since I saw my older cousin play CS:GO, I've been dedicated to it, so he gifted me a copy." - Jarco.

After a year of playing the game, Jarco decided to start a small CS:GO community named ‘Howl CS:GO’ in late 2016. An open community for CS:GO players who wanted to play the game more competitively with other people, instead of solo queuing. The community became inactive quite quickly, thus Jarco closed the community in early 2017.

In April 2017, the CS:GO team ‘HOWL Esports’ was created. The roster back then existed of Jarco ‘DiamondJ_CS’ Vervaeke, Benjamin ‘BenjiTheKing’ Christensen, Simon ‘Heartless’ Karlander, Samuel ‘Samwise’ Olofsson, Tom 'LG_' Chambers, Pierre ‘Peter76’ David, ‘MrPrezz.’ and ‘Naytte’, now known as DRGN Classic.  Our first goal as a team was to achieve the Global Elite rank before stepping into tournaments.

On the 19th of May 2018, we rebranded and ‘Howl Esports’ became ‘DRGN Esports’. With that, our focus changed from CS:GO matchmaking to playing on Faceit. Unfortunately, things didn't go as well as we hoped they would. On the 8th of August 2018, Peter76, MrPrezz and Naytte left the team and our friendship hit rock bottom. Despite this, we wanted to continue with the 5 of us who stayed together, but since not everyone had as much time to play, we needed one more player. Sami ‘SoleoL’ Laaksonen joined the squad and Samwise took a step back from the main roster.

On the 25th of September 2018, we played our very first Faceit tournament with our new roster and we won the tournament. "We were so excited with the final win, we were down 5-10 on Mirage after the first half and brought it back to 15-15, to then win with 19-16 in overtime. It truly showed our passion and we wanted to grow towards the future. However, the week after the unimaginable happened, the roster fell apart for various reasons and our friendship broke. I was upset at first, but some months later I realized I was wrong, it wasn’t anger, but sadness which I felt. Late December 2018 I tried to get in touch with everyone and rebuild our friendship again, which we did and I’m proud of that" - Jarco.

On the 22nd of February 2019, Jarco decided to revive and start up his own esports organisation, DRGN Gaming.

Vision

Our goal is to be one of the bigger, better and sustainable organisations in the esports industry. Esports is our passion and we are dedicated to run a full-time esports org which people can relate to.

Making a difference in- and outside the server is what we want. An example to other upcoming organisations, while still bringing the best of ourselves in all competitions we participate.

Mission

Our mission is to support and train esports athletes in their development to differentiate themselves in top tier gaming events, while still maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

Communication is the key to success, not only inside of the games, but also with everything going on outside of it. While many organisations tend to favor their best performing team(s) on social media, we are about honesty and equal treatment for all of our members. Every game is different and so, every esports scene has to be approached in a different way.

Not only communication towards the public, but also internal communication is maintained at all times. We strive to always be personal with everyone involved and a feeling of friendship with all of our members is something we deeply value.
